Barn Cats

We have some cats that are in desperate need a different kind of home. Due to litter box habits or unfamiliarity with humans, some cats would prefer to live in your barn or outbuilding rather than a house or apartment.  Most of these cats hate it here at the shelter-it's indoors, lots of people, etc.

If you are interested, please read our Barn Cat Acclimation Sheet to see if you have the right situation and supplies to help. If so, fill out our Barn Cat Application and return it by email to: icanimalcenter@iowa-city.org or call us at 319-356-5295 for more info. There is no fee to adopt Barn Cats and we will do our best to accommodate specific requests, but don't always have exact options. Barn cats are spayed/neutered with basic vaccinations and a microchip.

If you provide some food and shelter, we’ll provide exceptionally elegant pest control.

Below you can see some wonderful photos of a couple barn cats enjoying their lives outdoors.
