My Personality & Needs

Personality:
Parsons is nervous. He lived at large on a rural property without much human interaction so he's quite unfamiliar with what people normally expect from a pet dog. He's learning though! He loves food, especially cheese and hot dogs. His favorite thing is to go for long casual dog walks in quiet areas. He would make a fabulous companion for someone who wants a walking partner. He is also more calm around other dogs- especially bigger, female dogs and he would be a great buddy for a more outgoing confident female. He is still getting used to human handling and touch. Volunteers have been brushing him and putting his harness on/off, and practicing non threatening handling so he can learn to relax and not worry about it. He's a diamond in the rough looking for a patient and kind adopter.

Recommended Households:
Parsons will need a home that is willing to help him continue his potty training. He was an outdoor dog and was not house trained. He currently does not get bedding in his kennel here because he had been marking it. He will need a home that is willing to put the time into a dog who was free roam most of his life. Crate training is highly recommended for him to ensure he does not mark or urinate around the house when you are gone.
Crate training is recommended for house training a dog or puppy as it is the most efficient and effective method- it also helps prevent destructive chewing, door darting, and gives a dog a place to retreat. Recommend a positive reinforcement training class to instill good dog manners, provide socialization, and build a strong dog/adopter bond- This dog has a voucher for discounted classes.
